At Buss Murton Law, we’re all about giving back to our communities. One way in which we do that is by offering students real-world work experience.

Our latest work experience student was Jemima Roberts, a second-year Law student from Exeter University. Jemima lives in Tunbridge Wells and spent two weeks with us in our Tunbridge Wells office.

Jemima started her two-week work experience on the 12th of September. After meeting our Tunbridge Wells colleagues, Jemima was placed in our Commercial Property department. She learnt about Lease reports, legal research and drafting deeds. Jemima then moved to our operations department.

In the operations department, Jemima got to see what it’s like behind the scenes of a law firm. She spent time in reception, accounts, administration, and marketing. Jemima enjoyed her time in the operations team and said she enjoyed having “the chance to gain valuable insight in supporting the team in day-to-day operations”.

After her time in the operations department, Jemima joined our Private Client department. She worked closely with our trainee solicitor Katie Thompson, and learnt about Will instructions and drafting LPAs and Wills. Katie said that Jemima came back with some great insights and that it was lovely getting to know her.

Jemima’s next department was Dispute Resolution. She got to review current matter files, research claims procedures and learnt how legal secretaries handle new enquiries. On her last day, Jemima said she enjoyed working within our Dispute Resolution department the most, which was a surprise to her.

Jemima also spent a couple of days in our Family and Divorce department. She worked closely with Amy Bryant, another trainee solicitor, and learned about key procedures, consent orders and drafting Form Es.

After the experience, Jemima said that “this experience has not only enhanced my knowledge but has inspired me to pursue my career in law”.

We wish Jemima the best of luck in her continuing studies at Exeter University and are grateful for her time at Buss Murton Law.
