Divorce

The breakdown of a relationship can be a stressful and difficult time. There are a great many issues which need to be resolved, not least the future care of any children and financial and housing arrangements.  Sometimes it can all seem overwhelming, but the Buss Murton divorce and family law team has wide experience in this field, and can provide expert advice and assistance in relation to all aspects of divorce including:

  • Procedure;
  • Financial arrangements (“ancillary relief”), including division of capital, provision for housing needs, maintenance, company or business issues, pension provision, the protection of assets against possible disposition by one party, consideration of trusts and interim maintenance;
  • Arrangements for the future care of children, including who their principal carer should be and arrangements for contact with the other parent;

Although the financial issues arising on many divorces can be straight forward, many others are more complex, involving for example significant investments or business interests. Others raise issues of property law, commercial and corporate law, trust law, or inheritance law.   We therefore work closely with other departments in Buss Murton to ensure that appropriate advice on these issues is available.  We also recognise that expert financial knowledge can often be the key to maximising the use of available assets. We have therefore developed close relationships with accountants, actuaries, IFAs, pension and mortgage advisors and other experts who assist us, where appropriate, to ensure that our clients` interests are protected in the long as well as short term, and that they obtain the best possible outcome.
