Civil partnerships

Since December 2005, same sex couples have been able to place their relationship on a legal footing similar to that of marriage, by registering a civil partnership.  We can advise on the legal implications of registering a civil partnership, as well as in relation to pre and post registration agreements (the equivalent of pre and post nuptial agreements).  We also deal with all aspects of the dissolution of civil partnerships including:

  • Procedure;
  • Financial arrangements (“ancillary relief”), including division of capital, provision for housing needs, maintenance, company or business issues, the protection of assets against possible disposition by one party, consideration of trusts and interim maintenance;
  • Arrangements for the future care of children, including who their principal carer should be, and arrangements for contact with the other parent;
