Mums Mean Business
16 Feb 2010
Local Kent ‘Mumpreneurs' found out about the do's and don'ts of being in business at a seminar hosted by law firm Buss Murton, family interest magazine Kids Direct and AW Accounting.
The seminar at Buss Murton's Tunbridge Wells offices was aimed at mums who have started in business or are thinking of doing so. The seminar, presented by Alan Williams, Senior Partner, Reshma Field, Private Client Partner at Buss Murton and Alastair Wood from AW Accounting, addressed the legal and accounting practicalities of running a business.
Reshma Field commented: "The aim was to dispel many of the myths surrounding the legal side of being in business. The feedback we received from the Mumpreneurs who attended was very positive."
Reshma continues: "Successful Mumpreneurs have often had a professional career before they had their family and they tend to have a really good idea for a product or service and the drive and creativity to make it work. Fitting work in around busy family life is difficult for any Mum, let alone one trying to set up a business so by providing access to information and a platform to meet fellow Mumpreneurs, I hope we can equip these multi-tasking entrepreneurs for the journey ahead of them."
Among Mumpreneurs at the seminar were Tracy Ryder Richardson from the Buggy Workshop, Elizabeth Shepherd from Davis Dyslexia and Sarah Gray from Kids at Kaboodle.
Also attending were business advisers from NatWest Bank. Gary Johnson, Director of Branch Business Banking, said afterwards: "We are very much open for business to anyone who has a viable business idea that they want to turn into reality."
A further seminar for Mumpreneurs will be held on 29th April at 9.30 -11.30 with a buffet lunch afterwards. If you are interested in attending please contact Janine Lowe on 01892 502355.
